Tiger Giving Day
Thank you for your support
With your help, we not only met, but exceeded our goals for all four 2021 Tiger Giving Day projects supporting Vet Med programs. In fact, we raised more funds this year than in any previous Tiger Giving Day!
Your gifts helped purchase a custom puppy trailer for the Canine Performance Sciences program, secure virtual educational opportunities and enrollment kits for The Gene Machine, build a circular rehabilitation aviary at the Southeastern Raptor Center and plant mature oak trees to provide shade for our equine teaching herd.
It is alumni and friends like you who make a difference in the lives of everyone here at the College of Veterinary Medicine. Thank you for your support of Auburn Vet Med on Tiger Giving Day and every day.
Canine Performance Sciences
Transport detection dogs to puppy school
$34,476
137% raised toward our $25,000 goal from 361 donors
The Auburn Dog, bred and trained right here in Canine Performance Sciences, represents the college’s mission to improve the lives of the people everywhere by enhancing safety, security and animal health.
In 2019, we raised funds to build a Puppy Development Classroom, where the youngest Auburn Dogs will train. Now, the Auburn Puppy needs a way to get to school!
This Tiger Giving Day, we raised funds to purchase a custom puppy transport trailer for our younger puppies to travel to “puppy school” and other training locations.
The new trailer will help us continue to train “Man’s Best Friend, as Man’s Best Defense.”
The Gene Machine
Continue the fight against breast cancer
$14,909
149% raised toward our $10,000 goal from 217 donors
Because much of Alabama is medically underserved, the Gene Machine brings cutting-edge, research-based genetic testing to communities all across the state through partnerships with local organizations who help meet and educate survivors and their family members.
But the pandemic has forced us to change our operations. We’re still driving the Gene Machine locally, but we are not able to attend community events or travel outside of Auburn for study enrollment.
We’ve modified our protocol to virtually connect with the community through online cancer genetics education seminars and virtual study enrollments. Changing our operations comes with a cost, so this Tiger Giving Day funds were raised to create virtual enrollment kits and offer virtual breast cancer education seminars.
Southeastern Raptor Center
Build a new aviary for the raptors
$38,926
155% raised toward our $25,000 goal from 362 donors
In 2020, 341 raptors were admitted into Auburn’s Southeastern Raptor Center. After these birds receive treatment, they are housed in an outdoor aviary to regain flight strength in preparation for release.
Our current aviaries, built in 2000, are aging and not designed to allow for natural flight patterns. A new circular aviary would allow continuous flight for rehabilitating raptors and reduce the time between treatment and release back into their natural habitats.
This project serves as the beginning of fundraising for the new Southeastern Raptor Center expansion.

Large Animal Teaching Hospital
Plant trees in the new equine pasture
$16,200
162% raised toward our $10,000 goal from 104 donors
The Auburn College of Veterinary Medicine is home to lots of horses who help train our future veterinarians. Our equine teaching herd has been assigned some new “office space” and it needs some, shall we say, furniture. The herd’s new field is very nice, but it currently has no shade.
To solve this problem, we raised funds on Tiger Giving Day to add some trees to the equine herd’s new field. It has lots of grass and a stream on one side, but no trees. And on hot summer days, trees are necessary for the horses to have a place to escape the sun and cool off.
All funds raised in support of this project will be used to purchase and install mature oak trees to provide some necessary shade on the equine teaching herd’s new field.
